Yoga

Yoga is an ancient exercise (over 5,000 years old) that focusses on strength, flexibility and breathing to promote well-being. It can help improve balance and posture. It tends to work on endurance by holding certain positions and is fantastic for enhancing flexibility. Yoga differs from Pilates as it tends to work on whole body strengthening but is less focussed on the core specifically. It also has a greater emphasis on the mind and well-being.

What are the health benefits of yoga?

Dozens of scientific trials of varying quality have been published on yoga. While there’s scope for more rigorous studies on its health benefits, most studies suggest yoga is a safe and effective way to increase physical activity, especially strength, flexibility and balance. There’s some evidence that regular yoga practice is beneficial for people with high blood pressure, heart disease, aches and pains – including lower back pain – depression and stress.

My Yoga Journey

I initially discovered yoga in my 20s, incorporating it alongside my energetic, high-impact classes. Over the years, I intermittently engaged in yoga. It wasn’t until both during and after my pregnancy that I rediscovered its immense benefits—increasing suppleness and aiding in a swift physical recovery. Unfortunately, I later focused solely on weight training and cardio for several years.

Enter perimenopause, and yoga became my saviour! It brings me a sense of calm, vitality, and grace during movement. I want to share this gift of mindful movement with everyone, aiming to empower both spiritual and physical joy.

My deeper spiritual journey into yoga led me to Nepal, where I dedicated myself to 500 hours of advanced teacher training. Immersed in the Yogic lifestyle, I learned from some amazing experienced yogis, covering everything from well-known asanas to breathwork, meditation, philosophy, and beyond. This journey is etched in my memory, shaping my passion for sharing the transformative power of yoga with others.
