Sciatica
Sciatica is an umbrella term meaning pain from the sciatic nerve. Pain could be felt anywhere from the lower back, through the buttocks, down the backs of your legs and into your ankles, feet and toes. Common descriptions of sciatic pain include burning, tingling, pins and needles, shooting, stabbing, hot or cold sensations and even running water down your legs!
The sciatic nerve can irritated for many different reasons. The lumbar spine is the most common area that sciatica originates from, but other areas include the hips, buttocks and knees.
Physiotherapy for sciatica has been proven to be very effective and there is no need to see your GP first.
